Problem – Solution: Humane Bee Removal from Church Soffit in Decatur, GA

Problem: Bees Nesting 40 Feet Up in a Church Soffit

At a church on Kirk Road in Decatur, GA, a bee colony had found its way into the soffit where it met the brick wall, nearly 40 feet above the ground. The height of the hive made it difficult to access, and the colony’s location risked damaging the building’s structure over time. Left unchecked, the bees could have expanded their hive, increasing the risk of property damage and making removal even more complicated. The challenge was to safely remove the bees without harming them, protect the historic structure, and prevent the colony from returning.

Solution: Safe, High-Access Bee Removal and Prevention

To access the hive safely, we used a platform lift to reach the soffit. Once in position, we removed the fascia to expose the hive cavity. Using a bee vacuum, we gently collected the bees before cutting out the comb and placing it onto frames in hiveware for relocation.

After removing the hive, we thoroughly cleaned the cavity, stuffed it with insulation to block future access, and reattached the fascia to restore the building’s exterior. The bees and comb were then rehoused in managed hiveware with a feeder, allowing them to thrive in a safe, controlled environment.

This careful, high-access approach ensured the church remained structurally sound, the soffit was secured against reinfestation, and the bees were relocated humanely to continue supporting local pollination.
