Before & After: Frazier Road Hillside Garden Transformation

Before: Overgrown Hillside with Drainage and Aesthetic Issues

At this Frazier Road property, the homeowners were dealing with a long, densely overgrown hillside bordering their driveway. The slope stretched from the side of the house down to the street, cluttered with a tangle of invasive vines, shrubs, and old plastic landscaping fabric buried underneath. This overgrowth not only detracted from the curb appeal but also caused poor drainage issues that led to a mess and erosion along the driveway and sidewalk areas.

The existing hillside was challenging to maintain, unsightly, and affected the overall look and functionality of the property. The homeowners sought a low-maintenance landscaping solution that would improve drainage, enhance the property’s appearance, and provide seasonal interest throughout the year.

Design & Planning

We worked closely with the clients to develop a landscape design tailored to their hillside’s unique needs and limitations. Our goal was to:

  • Remove invasive and overgrown vegetation to restore the hillside’s health and visual appeal.
  • Introduce native and pollinator-friendly plants that attract beneficial wildlife.
  • Create a year-round attractive landscape with succession planting from spring through winter.
  • Incorporate natural stone boulders to improve access for maintenance and add visual structure.
  • Design a low-maintenance planting plan appropriate for the client’s needs and hillside accessibility.

Implementation & Results

Our team cleared the hillside of invasive vines and old debris, carefully removing plastic and preparing the soil for new planting. We installed a mix of perennials and shrubs selected for their hardiness, seasonal beauty, and ability to attract butterflies, bees, and birds.

To enhance functionality, we strategically placed boulders throughout the hillside, providing natural stepping points and easier access for periodic maintenance. Many of the plants chosen retain visual interest in the winter months and provide shelter and food for wildlife during colder seasons.

After: A Beautiful, Functional, and Wildlife-Friendly Hillside

The transformed hillside now offers a clean, vibrant landscape that improves curb appeal and drainage while supporting local pollinators and wildlife. The homeowners enjoy a low-maintenance garden that changes with the seasons and enhances the overall property value.

This project perfectly illustrates how thoughtful hillside landscaping design can turn a neglected slope into a stunning, functional feature. If you have a challenging hillside or drainage issues on your property, our team specializes in creating sustainable, wildlife-friendly, and low-maintenance landscapes tailored to your needs.
