At this Dunnington Circle home, the homeowners discovered bees entering through the bathroom roof exhaust vent. The insects had made their way deep into the ductwork, creating a hidden hive that posed both a nuisance and a potential structural problem. The challenge was to remove the bees and hive safely, without damaging the roof or duct system, and to prevent future infestations.
We inspected the situation and determined that direct access to the hive through the roof vent was not possible with our vacuum method. Our plan was to approach the hive from inside the attic, ensuring we could safely remove it without harming the bees or causing unnecessary disruption to the home.
Our team began by sealing the inside of the vent from light, discouraging the bees from deeper entry. We removed the vent from the roof for inspection, then entered the attic to access the ductwork. By carefully separating a section of the duct at two seams and capping each end with fabric, we could safely remove that duct section and reach the hive.
We placed the honeycomb onto frames in hiveware, preserving it for relocation, then cleaned the duct and reinstalled it. Finally, we secured the vent opening with hardware cloth to ensure the bees could not return.
The result was a fully cleared duct system, a relocated bee colony, and a secure vent that prevents future bee entry.
